One of my references for this collection was Flex, the film by video-artist Chris Cunningham with Aphex Twin. The tension and ambiguity created in this film piece were the sensations I wanted to create with the pieces of jewellery. There is an electric energy in the film – and borders between an embrace and a battle are never quite clear.
The two halves of this bangle could be pulling together, or could be bursting apart. The curves have a similar taut power to them. The form itself took its original cue from my drawings of bar clamps – and retains some of this almost mechanical nature. The colours of the yellow and rose gold were chosen to act as a counter balance to the industrial feeling of this clamp, giving the piece a rich warmth that softens it whilst still retaining the sense of tension.
