18ct Yellow Gold, Black Diamonds, Back Rhodium
TWISTED SHACKLE RING BLACK
In true Hannah Martin style, this ring takes the traditional shackle form one step further. Twisting around the finger the barrel of the sculpted shackle rests elegantly above the hand.
A subtle and effortless design, this ring whispers tales of subversive luxury.
Black diamonds and rhodium add a powerful contrast to the yellow gold of this pioneering ring design.

‘Aguila Dorada’ is a collection about wild adventures and chilling tales of piracy. The narrative was built on the idea of a character who had sailed the seven seas – untameable, unpredictable, dangerous and ultimately seductive.
This ring is a direct reference, with a quite literal twist, to the research I was doing around galleons and ships, the kind of ships that may have carried my sea-faring adventurer around the world.
During my period of design development I became fascinated by the boat shackles I purchased in a small Chandler’s, situated down a narrow alleyway in Central London. The mechanisms were so satisfying and they had such a sense of weight and purpose.
I started to experiment with how much I could distort the original shape, and give it the sense of volume and sculpture that I wanted. Mixing the forms with the detailing I had developed from the images I had collected of old duelling pistols, picked out here in pavé diamonds, the ring took shape.
The idea behind adding the ‘twist’ was that the shackle bar would then sit elegantly, running down the finger. The bar can also be fully removed and the ring worn without it.
I wanted the ring to feel like it was snaking around the finger protecting it, or perhaps restraining it in some way. The ambiguity adds to the mystery, and adds to the story. An ever so slightly deviant glamour perhaps?
