18ct Yellow Gold, Sterling Silver
SOLID SHACKLE NECKLACE
This 18 carat yellow gold necklace captures the barrel of a traditional ship’s shackle on its chain.
The sculptural yet simple gold bar on its blackened chain sits elegantly on the man or woman who wears it – a play on a traditional style, with Hannah’s identifiable modern twist.

The ‘shackle’ form features strongly, in various guises, as part of this collection - ‘The Forgotten treasures of the Infamous Aguila Dorada’, to give it its full name.
The collection itself grew from a sense of adventure. The narrative derives from a story of a wild and reckless character – a man who has sailed the seven seas and has returned with chilling tales to tell and dark secrets to keep. An untameable, unpredictable adventurer – rugged and dangerous, but ultimately seductive.
During my initial research stages I stumbled across a small Chandlery store, down a somewhat unused alleyway in Central London. I became fascinated with the boat hardware on sale and came away with bags of shackles, ropes and other less identifiable kit (or at least unidentifiable to me).
This piece is a more subtle reference to the shackles, whilst also playing on the traditional style of an Albert Bar necklace. I liked the idea of giving this traditional design a modern, slightly darker, twist.
I took the details from the bars of the shackles I had been designing, and worked it into this pendant – the connotations of the shackle are still there, but only for those in the know.
