18ct Rose Gold, Sterling Silver
MINIATURE SPUR PENDANT ROSE
One of Hannah’s earliest expressions of her now distinctive design language, the ‘spur’ form has become a true signature for the brand – seen here in rose gold on a black chain.
This sculptural pendant epitomises the raw sensuality of a Hannah Martin jewel, adding a touch of rock n’ roll to any look.

The shape of the ‘spur’ appears in various guises throughout this collection. It was born out of my exploration of masculinity and the excesses of rock and roll. I originally developed the shape whilst I was working on a one-off pair of sterling silver and ruby spurs to be worn over boots – which felt like the ultimate in rebellious luxury. These spurs then formed the identity of the spur-like shape you see here.
During the development of this collection I was not only immersing myself in the world of rock and roll but was also fascinated by the extremes of the human body – watching performances by contemporary dancers such as Michael Clark and the films of Kenneth Anger (Scorpio Rising in particular) and wanted the pieces I made to reflect the strength and power I saw in these performances.
Alongside this I was also taking reference from the work of photographers who I believe capture perfectly the spirit and energy of youth culture – such as Bruce Weber, Larry Clarke and Hedi Slimane.
The sculptural shape of the spur form is both curved and sharp. It has sensuality as well as power. I originally hand-carved the shape, and the feeling of the lines and volume as they appeared were very important to me. I felt the shape as it came to life.
With the miniature spur I worked to maintain all this energy, whilst delivering it in a more delicate form. I wanted a piece that could be worn daily, but that would not lose its power and symbolism.
