18ct Rose Gold, Tahitian Pearl
HOOKED PEARL EARRING SINGLE
As elegant on the ear as it is off, this Tahitian pearl has been hooked through its heart with rose gold, in a nod to the piratical theme of the Aguila Dorada collection. The inky-hues of the pearl contrast perfectly with the rose in the golden hook.
Simple in it’s detail, elegant on the body and with a recognisable Hannah Martin edge.
Please note that all Hannah Martin earrings are also available to purchase as a pair.

This collection, ‘The Forgotten Treasures of the Infamous Aguila Dorada’ to give it it’s full name, draws on the idea of a wild and untamed sea-faring character. A figure who has seen the world, sailed the seven seas and returned with chilling tales to tell, and deep dark secrets to keep. A piratical character – rugged and untameable, but passionate and ultimately seductive.
It seemed only right, in a collection that draws its inspiration from sea-faring adventurers and un-tameable pirates, that pearls should play a major part in the pieces. Pearls themselves can often have fairly traditional connotations. I wanted to break away from these and create designs for pearls that held a sense of excitement, something a little bit dangerous, a little bit anarchic perhaps.
The natural shape and feel of a pearl, particularly a Tahitian pearl in all its glory, is very sensual. They feel rounded, and alive. I wanted to counter this with the gold to create the edge that I felt it needed to move away from the traditional. I liked the idea that the pearls should somehow be pierced with shards of gold – and that this is what would hold them in place to the body, or at least appear to.
You can see in some of the other pieces in this family, such as the Stabbed Pearl Ring, that this entailed quite literally piercing the pearl through its heart with a shard. For this pair of earrings I wanted something a little more subtle. The hook shape, with its obvious piratical connotations seemed like the perfect answer.
The knife-edged ‘hook’ of rose gold holds the pearl at its centre and travels through the ear to keep it in place. The pearls themselves then rest lightly under the lobe.
